The Art of Education University (AOEU) is hiring a K-12 Professional Development and Curriculum Specialist to design content and create connections between curriculum and professional development. This individual will lead content producers in designing lesson plans, resources, and professional development. The K-12 Professional Development and Curriculum Specialist is a split role that reports directly to the Director of K-12 Professional Development and Media and the Director of K-12 Curriculum and Compliance.

The Details | K-12 Art Education Professional Development and Curriculum Specialist | Essential Functions

Lead Content Creation for Professional Development and Curriculum Platforms

This position will lead strategic, relevant content creation across AOEU’s K-12 professional development platform (PRO Learning) and K-12 curriculum platform (FLEX Curriculum). 

  • Envision and professionally execute thorough, dynamic, well-researched, standards-aligned content for both platforms.
  • Lead content creators through the process of developing dynamic videos, lessons, assessments, and resources by providing critique and feedback to elevate results. 
  • Collaborate with AOEU departments like graphic design, editing, and video production to produce polished, professional content in a timely, professional manner.
  • Travel to video shoots in order to support content creators. 
  • Review and edit work to ensure AOEU’s high standards are met.
  • Meet deadlines and accurately upload content to the AOEU website using an eye for excellence and a sense of urgency.

Additional Duties

This position will also be responsible for completing other projects and tasks integral to the success of the PRO Learning and FLEX Curriculum platforms, including but not limited to: 

  • Organizing and keeping PRO and FLEX databases up to date
  • Aligning PRO and FLEX content to standards
  • Answering customer questions about PRO and FLEX
  • Preparing PRO and FLEX content for uploading
  • Writing marketing materials for PRO and FLEX

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Evidence of prior experience developing K-12 professional development and curriculum.
  • Possesses a strong commitment to applying backward design, assessment, and scope and sequence.
  • Has a broad range of art education knowledge. 
  • Ability to identify and research what they don’t know in order to create the best content possible.
  • Can identify what constitutes high-quality teaching and learning in the arts.
  • Takes pride in creating excellent work and maintains the highest of standards. 
  • Can recognize art teachers’ changing needs and create content aligned to meet those needs, understanding that attention to detail matters, as does the ability to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. 
  • Can draw the best work out of others by building trust and personal relationships with content producers and co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide feedback, critique, and direction as appropriate. 
  • Is detail-oriented and highly capable of maintaining various projects and deadlines.
  • Has excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Has experience managing both people and processes.

Work Environment


Position requires considerable concentration and focus.

Ability to sit/stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift items such as laptops, monitors, and the like.

Ability to travel 4-6 times per year for video shoots, the annual team retreat, and other events.


Ability to view computer screens for significant periods.  The Art of Education University is an online university; therefore, 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.

Ability to use a laptop or other keyboard with accuracy.

Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.

Position Requirements


Minimum of a Bachelor’s in Art Education


Minimum of 5 years experience in the field of art education

Minimum of 3 years experience overseeing and providing feedback to adults 

Experience writing and reviewing curriculum

Compensation and Benefits


Structured as a full-time exempt, salaried position, this individual will report directly to Amanda Heyn, Director of K-12 Professional Development and Media and Amber Kane, Director of K-12 Curriculum and Compliance.  Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Payroll is remitted twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.  


Group healthcare plans are available. The Art of Education University will contribute 100% for full-time health, dental, and vision, employee-only coverage. Family coverage is available at an additional premium.

The Art of Education University offers participation, upon hire, in a 401K plan with up to a 4% match of employee contributions.

Appropriate and up-to-date technology is provided.

Unlimited self-managed PTO is offered to full-time employees of AOEU. Extended vacations must be pre-approved. Flexibility exists so long as responsibilities are fulfilled, and careful planning and communication are evident.
