Director of Product Design and Creative | The Profession | [Remote, FT]


The Art of Education University is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Product Design and Creative to join our rapidly growing institution. This remote, high-level position is crucial to driving the growth and creative direction of the institution through a variety of methods. 


The Director of Product Design and Creative will set the vision for the AOEU digital experience. Partner with internal stakeholders and external agencies to ensure consistent visual, language, and interaction design through all touchpoints. Ideal candidates must have a background in graphic design, brand identity, and UI/UX and be skilled in providing design and creative direction. This role requires a highly strategic thinker with a proven track record for leading execution on creative and experiential vision across platform, content, social media, motion, print, and events.


This role will be responsible for leading the ideation and execution of AOEUs new marketing and product experiences. These projects are in the early stages, so you will have the opportunity to get in on the ground floor, developing and conceptualizing new and innovative digital experiences that accentuate AOEU’s unique value proposition as a lifelong learning institution. 


Structured as a leadership position within the institution, the Director of Product Design and Creative will participate in a broad range of institutional discussions and decision-making. This position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.

The Details | Director of Product Design and Creative | 


Essential Functions

  • Lead a team of product designers, copy editors, videographers, and graphic designers to develop impactful creative experiences. Provide insight, inspiration, feedback, best practices, and opportunities for growth. 
  • Oversee the design team's efforts across all product initiatives, partnering with product counterparts to ensure strong execution from concept through launch and beyond.
  • Partner with Product Leadership to inform the product roadmap, strategy, and vision.
  • Identify appropriate methods for measuring design team effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement in team performance and design quality.
  • Manage the institutional design system, which includes the development of style guides, brand guidelines, brand campaigns, brand vision, and value proposition for the short- as well as long-term. 
  • Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative research, as well as data analysis, will spearhead data-driven decision-making in our design process. 
  • Work closely with the marketing team to develop content for targeted campaigns, sales, and unique growth and product marketing initiatives that are approachable and meet the specific needs of our audience. 
  • Develop original breakthrough ideas for various touchpoints across digital, experiential, e-commerce, social media, motion, print, and events.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 4+ years of experience as a Design leader, and ideally several more years in a mentorship capacity
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in creative and product design, with a focus on web and/or mobile products
  • Experience integrating design workflows with agile product development teams
  • A mix of high-growth Consumer and high-touch Enterprise experience is preferred
  • Experience applying user research methodologies and product data/analytics to inform design decisions, including partnering with product and research teams for data-driven persona creation and quantitative research projects
  • An inspiring portfolio that demonstrates experience managing design processes, leading design projects, crafting design systems, working through complex user flows, and shipping products that are functional, intuitive, and visually compelling
  • High aptitude for problem-solving and collaboration to effectively work with other leaders, customers, and stakeholders to evolve AOEU’s messaging
  • Proven ability to translate marketing and communication strategies into effective design strategies and visual communication solutions.
  • Experience documenting and communicating visual identity — the concept, the elements, and how to apply them — enabling others to easily, efficiently, and confidently work within the brand.


Work Environment

The duties of this position are typical of those performed in a home office setting with normal ranges of temperature. The majority of tasks will be performed while sitting at a desk.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable concentration and focus throughout the day
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift items such as laptops, monitors, and the like
  • When traveling: 
    • Ability to lift or push a suitcase
    • Ability to carry and lift up to 25-50 lbs of presentation materials for customers, conference presentations, etc.


VISUAL & TACTILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods. The Art of Education University is an online university. Therefore, 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices, such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like

EDUCATION

  •  Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred


EXPERIENCE

  • Five or more years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience working in a remote capacity is strongly preferred
  • Experience in a leadership role and managing others


Compensation and Benefits


POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a full-time exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Payroll is issued on a semi-monthly basis paid on the 15th and last business day of each month.
