Director of Technical Product Management | The Profession | [Remote, FT]

The Art of Education University is seeking an experienced and driven Director of Technical Product Management to join our rapidly growing institution. This remote, high-level position is crucial to driving the definition, design and development of our next-generation platforms. 

The Director of Technical Product Management will build and lead a team of Product and Project Management professionals that are responsible for supporting, and accelerating our growing engineering organization. This role will partner closely with our engineering, content and architecture teams to scope, plan and execute on a high-velocity roadmap to re-platform AOEUs learning management system and student information system. 

This is a high-impact role, designed for Product leaders that can thread the needle on complex problems, drive teams towards solutions and deliver on the expected outcomes of our users, stakeholders and shareholders.

The Details | Director of Technical Product Management | 

Essential Functions

  • Lead the creation of a mission-driven product roadmap, that synthesizes the needs and desires of a diverse set of stakeholders and user segments
  • Coach, mentor and hire a team of Product Managers and Project Managers, helping them continually hone their practice, and achieve their career goals 
  • Scale requirements gathering by developing repeatable processes that minimize requirements leakage and optimize epic scope
  • Collaborate with go to market teams to enable their success in supporting our customers as we release new features and products
  • Decompose complex consumer-facing and back-office business processes into actionable and deliverable epics, stories and acceptance criteria
  • Develop frameworks that will result in effective and efficient decision making at all stages of the product development process
  • Partner closely with engineering and product design leadership to ensure requirements inform UX/UI and technical design decisions
  • Leverage quantitative and qualitative research techniques to drive data-driven decision making, in Product and across the development organization
  • Work with your team to keep engineering continuously enabled with clearly articulated user stories and acceptance criteria

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Product Manager, with at least 2+ years in a senior-level role
  • Experience using Google Analytics, SQL, Tableau or other analytics tools to add evidence to narratives, and inform product decisions
  • A mix of high-growth Consumer and high-touch Enterprise experience is preferred
  • High aptitude for problem-solving and collaboration to effectively work with other leaders, customers, and stakeholders
  • Experience partnering with third-party consultants to flex development capacity and accelerate delivery 
  • Experience in Edtech and/or engineering roles a plus

Work Environment

The duties of this position are typical of those performed in a home office setting with normal ranges of temperature. The majority of tasks will be performed while sitting at a desk.


  • Considerable concentration and focus throughout the day
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to lift items such as laptops, monitors, and the like
  • When traveling: 
    • Ability to lift or push a suitcase
    • Ability to carry and lift up to 25-50 lbs of presentation materials for customers, conference presentations, etc.


  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods. The Art of Education University is an online university. Therefore, 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices, such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like

Position Requirements


  •  Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is preferred


  • Five or more years of experience in a similar position
  • Experience working in a remote capacity is strongly preferred
  • Experience in a leadership role and managing others

Compensation and Benefits


Structured as a full-time exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with education and experience. Payroll is issued on a semi-monthly basis paid on the 15th and last business day of each month.
