Subject Matter Expert - Graduate Curriculum | The Profession | 


The Art of Education University is seeking exceptional educators to develop and write content for courses within our graduate program. Subject Matter Experts are selected based on subject matter knowledge, writing ability, and experience in the field. SMEs must be able to look critically at the needs of the course and scaffold material while keeping in mind the principles of andragogy. Subject Matter Experts must have K-12 art experience or studio art experience, strong writing and communication skills, technology proficiency, enthusiasm and knowledge of trends and best practices in art education, and the ability to adhere to strict deadlines. The Details | Subject Matter Expert | 


Essential Functions

  • Scaffold course content utilizing a backward design process
  • Develop formative and summative assessments
  • Develop interactive discussion board prompts that tie to course objectives and relevant reading and research
  • Create necessary course documents 
  • Collaborate with Learning Experience designer to make sure rigor and relevance of course meet AOEU needs
  • Maintains timely and effective communication with Learning Experience Designer
  • Maintains project deadlines


OTHER

  • Attends required training and meetings

  • Must be comfortable in a technology-focused environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized 
  • Must be able to prioritize work in order to meet task deadlines
  • Proficient with technology including word-processing and Google Docs
  • Ability to learn quickly and receive constructive feedback on project development

Work Environment

The duties of this position are typical of those performed in a home office setting with normal ranges of temperature.  The majority of tasks will be performed while sitting at a desk.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Position requires considerable concentration and focus throughout the day.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift items such as laptops, monitors, and the like.
  • When traveling: 
    • The ability to lift or push your suitcase.
    • Ability to carry/lift up to 25-50 lbs of presentation materials for customers or for conference presentations, etc.


VISUAL & TACTILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods of time.  The Art of Education University is an online university.  Therefore 95-98% of one’s time will be on or using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop keyboard with accuracy.
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like.


Position Requirements


EDUCATION

  • Master Degree in Art or Education or commensurate experience as a professional artist. 


EXPERIENCE

  • 2- 4 years related experience
  • Experience with D2L’s Brightspace or other LMS systems as a means of content delivery preferred
  • Curriculum development experience preferred


TECHNOLOGY

  • Secure and reliable access to the Internet with the capability to support audio and video calls required


Compensation


POSITION DETAILS

Structured as a part-time, contract position.  Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.  Payment is issued on the 15th of the month after the project has been completed. This contract is estimated at 5-10 hours per week.

Timeline


THE PROCESS

Individuals interested in applying for the position of Subject Matter Expert role need to complete the application form which includes submitting a work sample. The work sample prompt that will be provided in the application is as follows:

  1. Utilize the Magazine & Media section of www.theartofeducation.edu or an outside source to select a topic and find 1-3 resources. 
  2. Develop a “week” of content based on your chosen topic. Content must include: 
    1. A weekly objective or learning target
    2. Discussion Board Prompt
    3. Assignment or formative assessment that ties to the topic
    4. List of resources with links to the original article or document.
  1.   Submit your work sample as a PDF or Google Doc (make sure permission are       

            set to “anyone with a link”)


Candidates are selected on a project by project basis based on experience, writing ability, and subject area qualifications.


Finalists will participate in an interview with the Lead Learning Experience Designer.
