Software Engineer II | The Role |

The Art of Education University (AOEU) is looking for a Software Engineer II  to join our team in building the next generation of our educational SaaS products and systems.


AOEU has developed a home-grown suite of technology solutions to support our unique value proposition, of serving the educational and teaching needs of art teachers across their entire careers. We have extended our technology stack to its boundaries and are ready to move beyond to new more scalable frameworks that will better support our growth trajectory in the years to come. We are in search of a skilled software developer with a diverse background, that is interested in helping us optimize our current platform to meet the needs of our users and the business, while also building for the future. 


We believe products should be so simple to use and beautiful in their design, that they speak for themselves in a sales demo. Our products should sell themselves in any context, B2B, B2C and should be valued based on the measurable, positive outcomes they create for our customers and end users. We are wary of feature creep but always seek continual improvement.

The Details | Software Engineer II |

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Software Development

  • Collaborates with Product, Design, and Quality Assurance to plan, design, and deliver features and fixes
  • Works with the team to define acceptance criteria and write engineering stories
  • Writes testable, maintainable code
  • Writes effective, automated tests
  • Documents and maintains knowledge of product features and capabilities
  • Documents and maintains knowledge of data and user workflows
  • Champions and promotes best practices within the Product division to ensure quality, stability, performance, and maintainability
  • Performs analysis and provides feedback and documentation on reported defects, and implements solutions
  • Apply techniques and tools for identifying, collecting, analyzing, and reporting product quality and usage data
  • Identifies and helps mitigate risks to delivery
  • Works to reduce code complexity
  • Learns best practices and processes from the team
  • Participates in standup, planning, retros, reviews, and other scrum meetings

Leadership

  • Mentors peers and junior team members
  • Pairs with other team members to work through solutions and implementations
  • Shares knowledge and practices with the team
  • Performs thoughtful code reviews and provides constructive, positive feedback with the interest of improving code quality, performance, and building the team


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • 3 - 5 years experience in JavaScript, Python, or Go
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, or other web development tools
  • Experiencing working with Cloud environments (AWS, Heroku, DigitalOcean)
  • Expertise with source control methodologies  (Git, Mercurial, etc.)
  • Understanding of agile methodologies and software development lifecycle 
  • Experience with unit testing and test driven development
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (SCRUM, Kanban)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD processes
  • Familiarity with feature flagging and A/B testing
  • Knowledge of software architecture and design
  • Experience working in a remote capacity
  • Experience working with a software development team


Position Requirements

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related degree from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience


EXPERIENCE

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in software development
