Remote Adjunct Instructor

The Art of Education University (AOEU) is seeking new online Adjunct Instructors. A terminal degree (Ph.D., Ed.D. or M.F.A.) is preferred for consideration. A master's degree is required and will be considered when paired with unique specializations that meet the university's needs.

Remote Adjunct Instructors play a key role in providing a world-class learning experience to our students--primarily professional K-12 art educators.  This role involves providing inspiring instruction and engaging facilitation/discussion, in addition to fair assessment and evaluation of student work.

  • Audit at least one course, utilizing our online platform, for training purposes.
  • Instruct one course section, using the same online platform to learn course structure and format.
  • Instruct courses as assigned over the course of the year on a mutually agreed-upon basis.
  • Commit to the time requirements needed for comprehensive course instruction.  Actual time will vary based on workload.


Candidates with the following qualifications will be considered for the position.

Educational Qualifications & Experience

  • Earned Ph.D., Ed.D, or M.F.A. with experience in the field of art education is preferred.
  • Earned master's degree with experience in the field of art education is required.
  • Master's degree candidates will only be considered when paired with unique specializations and/or experience that meet university needs. Currently seeking specializations in art therapy, special education, 3D media (sculpture, fibers, ceramics), and technology integration.
  • Five or more years of teaching experience in the field of art education.
  • Experience teaching and working with adult learners strongly preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a college or university preferred, but not required.
  • Experience teaching online preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Well-versed in a wide breadth of topics in art education.
  • Comfortable with online learning platforms and other forms of technology.
  • Exhibits passion and professionalism through contributions to the field of Art Education.
  • Possesses strong organizational/accountability skills and a passion for learning.
  • Exhibits confidence, energy, and expertise.
  • Relates to adult learners at a variety of stages within their career while simultaneously promoting student growth.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).


This is a part-time exempt, project-based position conducted through online instruction. The bulk of instructional opportunities occur during the summer months.  Additional instructional opportunities are available on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.

AOEU instructors are compensated using a formula that takes into account the number of students and the number of credits on each course roster.  Compensation is nationally competitive and commensurate with experience and education.

The work schedule is flexible as long as work is completed in a thorough and timely manner and meets or exceeds the expectations of the institution.

This role is 100% online and can be completed from anywhere with a reliable, high-speed internet connection.  In addition to teaching, all AOEU instructors are required to attend regular team meetings/ training online.
