REMOTE Senior Editor | The Profession | 


Are you passionate about sharing the best and brightest ideas in art education? Do you love leading others toward a common goal? Do you have a knack for marketing your ideas to others? The Art of Education University (AOEU) is seeking a Senior Editor to lead the AOEU media platforms to new heights. This individual will manage content across various platforms, including online magazines, YouTube, and Instagram Live. The Senior Editor reports directly to the Director of K-12 Professional Development and Media. This position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced creative environment.

The Details | Senior Editor | 


Essential Functions


Lead the AOEU Online Magazine


This position will be responsible for leading a group of staff and guest writers in creating strategic, relevant content for the online magazine.

  • Lead the content curation strategy for the AOEU Magazine 
  • Bridge AOEU’s content creation strategy and individual contributor voices
  • Maintain a regular publishing schedule tightly aligned with marketing campaigns
  • Scout, hire, manage, and support AOEU’s team of writers
  • Content edit all articles and other publications
  • Write and create thorough, dynamic, well-researched content on an as-needed basis


Lead Content Creation for Media Platforms


This position will be responsible for developing, launching, and leading content creation for AOEU’s other media platforms, including but not limited to YouTube and Instagram Live. 

  • Lead the content curation strategy for all media platforms 
  • Maintain a regular publishing schedule tightly aligned with marketing campaigns
  • Scout, hire, manage, and support AOEU’s team of media content creators
  • Appear on camera across a variety of platforms

Align AOEU Media with Marketing 


This position will be responsible for collaborating with the PD and Marketing teams on a strategic vision for the magazine and media platforms. 

  • Align media offerings with marketing campaigns
  • Write and copy edit marketing materials

  • Deeply understands the role social media plays in the lives of art teachers
  • Understands best practices and content strategy across a variety of social media platforms and stays up-to-date with updates and trends
  • Is well-connected with a breadth and depth of educators, artists, professionals, and other personalities on social media
  • Has the ability to recognize art teachers’ changing needs and create content aligned to those needs 
  • Has an excellent understanding of the field of art education
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote work environment
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Ability to collaborate with many departments to complete projects
  • Self-driven and motivated to keep work on track and meet deadlines
  • Significant experience managing both people and processes
  • Ability to learn and utilize various technology platforms  

Work Environment


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Considerable concentration and focus
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift items such as laptops, monitors, and the like
  • Ability to travel up to 2-3 times per year for the Annual Team Retreat and other events.


VISUAL & TACTILE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to view computer screens for significant periods. Because AOEU is an online university, 95-98% of one’s time will be spent using technology.
  • Ability to use a laptop or other keyboard with accuracy
  • Ability to hear at normal levels and through electronic devices such as laptops, earbuds, phones, and the like


Position Requirements


EDUCATION

  •  Minimum of a Bachelor’s in Art Education or a related field is required


EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in the field of art education or related field
  • Experience creating video content for YouTube, Instagram, or other platforms


Compensation & Benefits


POSITION DETAILS


Structured as a full-time exempt, salaried position, this individual will report directly to Amanda Heyn, Director of Professional Development and Media.  Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.  Payroll is remitted monthly on the 15th of each month.

Group healthcare plans are available.  The Art of Education University will contribute 100% for full-time health dental, and vision, employee-only coverage.  Family coverage is available at an additional premium.


The Art of Education University offers participation, upon hire, in a 401K plan with up to a 4% match of employee contributions.


Appropriate and up-to-date technology is provided.


Unlimited self-managed PTO is offered to full-time employees of AOEU.  Extended vacations must be pre-approved.  Flexibility exists so long as responsibilities are fulfilled and careful planning and communication are evident.


Timeline


THE PROCESS

  • Persons interested in applying should complete the application form linked below.  Applicants are required to submit a short 1-3 minute video explaining why they would like to be considered for the position and why they are uniquely qualified.  Failure to submit a video will automatically eliminate you from the application process.
  • Candidates who make it to Round 2 of the application process will be required to complete a packet for review prior to their scheduled interview time.  
  • Finalists will have one final culture interview with the President of the University.
  • All applicants and candidates will be notified of the status of their application.

  • The preferred start date is February 15th, 2021. Flexibility in the start date may be available.
